Joint Development Bank Public in Brief<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the leadership of the Lao People\u2019s Revolutionary Party and the Government of the Lao People\u2019s Democratic Republic, comprehensive policies have been implemented to promote openness and international cooperation, with the aim of developing the national socio-economic system and improving the living standards of the people. The banking sector plays a vital role in supporting national economic growth and development.<\/p>\n

The Joint Development Bank Public (JDB)<\/strong> was established in accordance with the Notification of the President of the Ministerial Assembly No. 04\/MA, dated 21 January 1989, chaired by His Excellency Kaysone Phomvihane<\/strong>, then President of the Ministerial Assembly and Prime Minister of the Lao People\u2019s Democratic Republic.<\/p>\n

JDB officially commenced operations on 3 October 1989<\/strong> as a joint-venture commercial bank between the Lao and Thai sides. At the time of establishment, Thai investors represented by Phongsouvan Sailo and Opphuad<\/strong> held 70%<\/strong> of the Bank\u2019s shares, while the Lao side, represented by the Bank of the Lao PDR<\/strong>, held the remaining 30%<\/strong>. The Bank\u2019s head office was located at Building No. 82, Lane Xang Avenue, Hatsady Village, Chanthabouly District, Vientiane Capital<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Since its establishment, the Bank has been guided by successive Presidents of the Management Board as follows: Mrs. Sivaly Sisane (1990\u20131995)<\/strong>, Mr. Phien Philakone (1996\u20131999)<\/strong>, Mr. Khamsouk Soundala (2000\u20132006)<\/strong>, and Mr. Somphao Phaisith (2007\u20132009)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

On 15 June 2010<\/strong>, the Bank of the Lao PDR transferred all of its shares to the Thai investor Mr. Silod Singsomboun<\/strong>, who assumed the position of President of the Management Board. Consequently, JDB became a 100% foreign-invested commercial bank<\/strong>. During this period, the Bank operated four service units: Wattay<\/strong>, Thatluang<\/strong>, Vang Vieng<\/strong>, and Luang Prabang<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

A significant milestone was achieved on 18 October 2012<\/strong>, when all shares were transferred to Simoung Group<\/strong>, resulting in JDB becoming a 100% Lao-owned private commercial bank<\/strong>. Mr. Ekkaphan Phaphithak<\/strong> was appointed President of the Management Board and led a new management team supported by professional consultants. The team possessed strong academic qualifications, with many members holding Master\u2019s and Doctoral degrees, together with over 20 years of professional experience in their respective fields.<\/p>\n

Following this transition, the Joint Development Bank, commonly known as JDB<\/strong>, strengthened its reputation by delivering high-quality banking services characterised by convenience, professionalism, and reliability. The Bank adopted modern technologies aligned with international standards, enabling faster and more efficient services. JDB has gained wide recognition both domestically and among ASEAN and international financial institutions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As part of its long-term growth strategy, JDB significantly enhanced its capital base. The Bank increased its registered capital from LAK 84 billion to LAK 404 billion<\/strong>, and subsequently to LAK 750 billion<\/strong>, reflecting its strengthened financial capacity and commitment to supporting sustainable economic development in the Lao People\u2019s Democratic Republic.<\/p>\n

In a further landmark achievement, JDB successfully listed its shares on the Lao Securities Exchange (LSX)<\/strong> on 10 October 2025<\/strong>.
